Wildly Influential Illustrator

This month UPPERCASE will celebrate the fine art of children's book illustration and what better way to kick it off than with a tip of the hat to one of the most influential artists in the field, Maurice Sendak. In 1963 Sendak published "Where the Wild Things Are," a book that is often cited as a key source of creative inspiration by illustrators the world over.  It is a timeless tale of a child's dark imagination, beautifully captured in fantastic monster imagery and fabulous line drawing.  For more on the work, life, and creative legacy of Sendak, check out PBS's American Masters series profile.
