year in review
/Dear Readers,
As this year comes to a close, I would like to thank you for your continued support of UPPERCASE. There's no way to sugar-coat 2013. It was an exhausting year—learning that my beloved studio space of 8 years was to be demolished, the time-consuming work of finding a new office, dealing with the "Flood of the Century", moving, and at last settling into a new office. It seemed like this year was a marathon, with added hurdles and detours along the way.
Despite all of this inconvenience and extra expense, I can still look back at this year and see four fantastic issues of UPPERCASE magazine, the release of Work/Life 3 and the introduction of new products like our handmade Eclectonotes and Everyday Notebooks. I am proud of the work we were able to publish this year. And we had some fun adventures here and there as well!
There are a few special projects that necessarily had to be pushed back. The Typewriter, near and dear to my heart, is shaping up to be a wonderful book and will be available next year. As much as it pains me to get behind on my self-imposed deadlines, with all the unexpected events of the year, delaying its release was the best decision. I am also eager to work on Little U: the offspring of UPPERCASE magazine. It will be a small but mighty book/magazine "mook" for the creative young-at-heart.
The community of our readers remains strong and with your input and talent, the quality of our content just keeps getting better year after year. With TWENTY issues (time flies!!!) now published, these past five years are well worth celebrating.
I am looking forward to 2014—a clean slate in which we can all make beautiful ideas and pretty things together. Let's make it count.
