Jenny's new Etsy shop

Our Calgary friends likely know Jenny Tzanakos from the shop; she was the friendly face of UPPERCASE on Saturdays. Now that UPPERCASE's focus is shifted towards publishing the magazine and our books (and I head towards maternity leave), Jenny has taken on the roles of subscription manager, online shop-keeper and eclecto-maker. She is also a contributor to UPPERCASE magazine and her photography is featured in the "Snapshot" article from issue 3.

She has just launched her own Etsy shop, and these mixed media works are lovely. Please head on over to Magdalena Junk and welcome Jenny to Etsy!

w.i.p.s.

These are recent uploads to the UPPERCASE-curated flickr pool, The Work-in-Progress Society, which celebrates beauty in the unfinished. Craft, art, design, illustration: photographed in progress as well as our desks, tools, studios, supplies... I invite you to share your works in progress!

The images might be used in posts on the UPPERCASE journal about The Work-in-Progress Society (credited and linked to its Flickr member) and will be considered for print publication in upcoming UPPERCASE projects. Should your image be selected for publication, you will be contacted for additional information and higher resolution files if necessary. Thank you!

Guest curator on Etsy!

I'm thrilled to be a guest curator today on Etsy's inspiring blog, The Storque. (hmmm curious coincidence with the name, there!) I've selected just a few of my favourites and they're all creative people who have been involved in UPPERCASE magazine in one way or another. Click here to read the full post and to find links to great Etsy sellers! If you're a regular reader of UPPERCASE and have an Etsy shop, please feel free to include a link to your shop in the comments below.

(If you'd like to advertise your Etsy store in the winter issue, we have a full page dedicated to independent sellers. Ads are inexpensive, starting at just $72 Canadian for subscribers. Click here for more details and here to see past ad pages in our magazine.)

Thanks, Etsy, for providing so much inspiration, eye candy, connections and great purchases to us all!

Fine Little Day

Elisabeth Dunker has a new limited edition print available in her shop! It's a tribute to the "slow and calm life. It's also a flirt with old embrodery, ornamental folk art and pixel graphics," she says.

I'm posting this from the hotel in Winnipeg—very shortly on my way to see Camilla's book on press. Elisabeth's beautiful photographs are featured throughout the new book, as are her wonderful Studio Violet collaborations created with Camilla.

Make It: the handmade revolution

The latest crafty event starts today at 4pm. The Make It show highlights handmade items from Canadian urban artisans and designers. In addition to my favourites (Amy Victoria Wakefield photography at top, Paige Smith Designs, middle and Amber Leigh fashions, above) there are many more to discover. Click here to get a 2 for 1 admission coupon.

UPPERCASE will be closed this Saturday for the Make It show: visit Jenny's booth and see the lovely things she's made for the show! Our magazine will be available as well.

Re-used Records by Cat Davison

This is the work by Cat Davison, a London-based jewellery designer in her final year at Central Saint Martins.

"I love loud and expressive jewellery, and believe all accessories carry meaning and - whenever possible - should be elevated to art status. I also believe jewellery should be fun as well as environmentally aware... sometimes there's nothing better than the feeling you've created something nice from something ghastly - much of my 100% recycled jewellery, I have no qualms in admitting, is made out of Des O'Conner records. Sorry Des!"

Congratulations to the workroom!

The workroom is celebrating its second anniversary tomorrow - congratulations, Karyn!

"On Tuesday October 13th (6-8pm-ish), we invite you to drop by for some wine, cheese and birthday cake. Bring a friend or meet up with your past class mates, we'd love to see you and thank you in person. We'll be having a raffle that night for some fun prizes including class gift cards, a subscription to Uppercase Magazine, a Soak gift pack and more!"
