Father's Day Film Fare

A friendly reminder that, in many parts of the world, this Sunday is Father's day.

I decided to thank my dad (the greatest!) by giving him a Paul Newman-themed dvd collection. So many stellar films to choose from: The Hustler (1961), Slap Shot (1977), Cool Hand Luke (1967) and Hud (1963) among them. Paul was one fine man, on and off screen.

If you haven't seen it yet, Nobody's Fool is particularly wonderful. A sweet, wry comedy in which Paul stars as Sully, a dashing 60-something curmudgeon who faces family responsibilities late in the game. Click here to watch the trailer.

And happy father's day to all the dads out there.

Suitcase: Circus Violet

Here are my photos of the Circus Violet porcelain pieces in the Re-Use show at Manos. It looks like you will soon be able to purchase work from the show on the Manos website. (Don't worry about the shipping of these delicate objects – Karin is an expert packer and she ships ceramics around the world.) I bought a bowl and the sugar holder. I'll take some close-up photos of those in my home.

Suitcase: the first of May

This afternoon we went to Overjarva Gard, a small farm outside of Stockholm that is home to Karin Eriksson's studio and her boutique, Manos. Camilla and Elisabeth are showing new work from Studio Violet in the Re-Used show. It was the perfect place to spend the first of May. I took plenty of photos of Manos and the show, but I'll let Camilla and Elisabeth be the first to post their photos of the exhibition when they return home tomorrow. I'm putting together a video of their preparation for the show, so expect that in the next week or so.

It has been a real pleasure to meet my Swedish blog friends in person: Camilla, Elisabeth, Sandra and Karin are all as friendly, sincere and talented as you'd imagine from reading their blogs and viewing their pictures. I hope we can return their hospitality and convince them to visit Calgary!
