inky hands at the Letterpress Academy

Saint Gertrude Letterpress Academy is a letterpress workshop in Melbourne, Australia that designs and prints letterpress ephemera on their 100-year-old platen affectionately named Gordon. Saint Gertrude is now offering hands-on letterpress classes.

"Letterpress Academy is a new open access workshop offering participants the chance to learn more about the process of modern letterpress printing," says founder and Creative Director Amy Constable

The classes are open to professional designers and beginners alike. To get your hands dirty (and inky) with Saint Gertrude, click here

movie monday: B

Mike Collins, the director and cinematographer, shared a link for a short film profile:

"Bessie Anderson, known to her friends as B, is a letterpress printer. After a chance visit from a former student to her high school in Massachusetts, B decided to enter a profession only done by a handful of artisans in the country. Setting up shop in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, this is B's story."

typewriter woodcuts by Kathryn Hunter

I'm really enjoying the typewriter stories that people have been sharing with me.

Kathryn Hunter of Blackbird Letterpress writes: "I'm SO excited about the typewriter book!!! I have 5 in my own small collection. My favourite being the Hermes Rocket. I started a series of woodcuts several years back with women and their typewriters, all with the theme of communication." Thanks, Kathryn for sharing some of these images with us and for your support of The Typewriter: a Graphic History of the Beloved Machine.

Stay tuned for the next update in the crowdfunding campaign! It's a big one!
